Clements, Schaffer, Bishop Earn CCC Softball Major Awards; Five Tabbed to All-CCC Teams
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Junior Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) headlined the Eastern Nazarene College softball team's All-Commonwealth Coast Conference selections as she became the first player in program history to be named the CCC Player of the Year. Sophomore Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) was tabbed the CCC Pitcher of the year while third-year head coach Dani Bishop was voted the CCC Co-Coach of the Year.
Clements and Schaffer were each selected to the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference first team. Junior Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) claimed All-CCC second team honors for the second-straight year. Sophomore Kayleen Garrick (Sparks, Nev.) and rookie Dominique Santos (Lancaster, Calif.) both garnered All-CCC third team accolades.
Clements paces the league with a .694 slugging-percentage and 11 runners-caught-stealing. She ranks 36th nationally and first in the conference with eight home runs on the season. Clements leads the league and ranks 42nd in NCAA with 37 RBIs.
She also ranks third in the CCC with 45 base hits and a .417 batting-average while her .462 on-base percentage is the fourth-highest in the league.
This spring, Clements recorded a hit in 28 games and was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week once.
Schaffer is the first CCC Pitcher of the Year in program history. She ranks fourth in the nation with 187 strikeouts on the season while her 10.3 strikeouts-per-seven-innings are the eighth-best mark in NCAA. Schaffer ranks fifth in Division III with five shutouts while ranking 10th with an earned-run-average of 0.82.
This season, Schaffer leads the league in strikeouts and ERA while ranking second in the conference with 127.1 innings-pitched and 14 wins in the circle. She was named the CCC Pitcher of the Week twice this year.
Schaffer posted 10 double-digit strikeout performances and threw 15 complete games this spring.
A two-time Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week selection, Weidler ranked second in the conference and 51st nationally with 36 RBIs. She also ranked second with six homers and an on-base percentage of .492 while leading the league with 19 walks drawn.
Weidler ranks fourth in the CCC with 11 doubles, fifth with 27 runs scored, and sixth with 43 hits. She collected hits in 31 of the Lions' 36 games this season while also reaching base in 35 contests.
Santos paces the league with 38 runs scored and 49 base hits on the season. She ranks in the top-10 in the conference in doubles, batting-average, on-base percentage, slugging-percentage, home runs, and RBIs.
Garrick leads the CCC with seven sacrifice hits on the year while ranking sixth with 26 runs scored.
Bishop guided Eastern Nazarene to its first-ever top-two finish in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Lions posted a 13-5 record in league competition after finishing 5-13 a year ago.
Eastern Nazarene sports a 26-10 overall record, the best mark in program history and the first-ever 20-victory campaign.
The Lions grabbed the No. 2 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament and will host opening round action April 28.
