Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader with Lesley

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team salvaged a doubleheader split with Lesley Tuesday evening at Mitchell/McCoy Field. After dropping the opening contest 12-1 in six frames, the Lions bounced back to earn a 2-0 win in game two.

The Lions move to 12-20 on the year while the Lynx progress to 15-11 overall.

Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) racked up three hits and added an RBI to lead the hosts offensively. Kaitlyn Jimenez (Meriden, Conn.) and Viviana Coix (Warrenville, Ill.) each notched a pair of base knocks and one run scored on the night. Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) tallied two hits while Payton Fry (Chandler, Ariz.) chipped in with a homer.

In game one, the guests erupted for a dozen runs late in the game to collect a 12-1 victory.

Eastern Nazarene snagged a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Jimenez scampered home on a slow roller off the bat of Emily Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.).

Lesley delivered four runs in the top of the fifth to claim a 4-1 advantage. Stephanie Schofield landed a single to right to drive in Theresa Pereira. After a walk, Mekenzi Golden belted a three-run homer to centerfield.

The Lynx tacked on eight runs in the sixth to widen the gap to 12-1. Jordan Raab, Carlyn Barker, Abby Henderson and Courtney Goggin all registered RBI base knocks in the inning for the visitors.

Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) pitched five innings and struck out seven batters and Meghan Stanley (Bedford, Mass.) tossed one inning of relief.

In the nightcap, the Lions got back in the win column with a 2-0 victory to snap a seven-game skid.

Eastern Nazarene chalked up one run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Fry crushed her first home run of the season, a solo blast over the fence in left-center.

The Lions added a run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their advantage to 2-0. Coix crossed the dish as Clements scorched a single to third base.

Weidler spun a complete-game shutout for the third time this season, finishing with four strikeouts.

Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts former conference foe Regis April 20.
