
Men’s Volleyball’s Alejandro Garcia Fernandez Claims NEVC Player of the Week Nod
SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Senior Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (San Juan, P.R.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team was named the New England Volleyball Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, as the league announced its weekly awards Tuesday.
He notched 48 kills and added nine aces to power the Lions to a pair of crucial conference wins on the week.
Garcia Fernandez racked up 31 kills to go with 11 digs and four aces as Eastern Nazarene rallied past SUNY Poly 3-2. In the come-from-behind victory over SUNY Poly, Garcia Fernandez became the first individual in program history to amass 1,000 career kills. The following day, he tallied 17 kills and five service aces as the Lions swept SUNY Potsdam.
This season, Garcia Fernandez leads the league with 4.23 kills-per-set and 0.73 aces-per-set while also ranking fourth in the conference with 186 total kills.
Eastern Nazarene sports a 12-5 record on the season with a 3-1 mark in the NEVC. The Lions travel to Rivier March19.
