Third-seeded Men’s Volleyball Sweeps No. 6 Seed Sage in NECC Tournament First Round
QUINCY, Mass.- The No. 3 seed Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team defeated sixth-seeded Sage 3-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament opening round Tuesday evening at the Lahue Athletic Center.
The Lions improve to 14-12 on the year with the win and advance to the NECC Tournament semifinals. The Gators finish the 2022 campaign with a 6-24 overall record.
Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) posted a match-best 15 kills to go with five aces. Jacob Zarges (Quincy, Mass.) recorded six kills, seven digs, and five aces. Aaron Huang (Quincy, Mass.) tallied 15 assists while Christopher Gil (Lawrence, Mass.) contributed with eight assists.
The home side captured the first set 25-17 to establish a 1-0 lead.
Eastern Nazarene prevailed 25-16 in the second frame to widen the margin to 2-0.
The Lions cruised to a 25-10 decision in the third to lock up the win and punch their ticket to the NECC semifinals.
Deshawn Fleary paced Sage with four kills while Ryan Jennings collected eight assists.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will travel to No. 2 seed Nichols April 7 in the NECC Tournament semifinals.
