
Men’s Volleyball Outlasts SUNY Poly, 3-2, in NECC Opener
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team stretched its winning-streak to nine-straight matches with a 3-2 victory over SUNY Poly Friday evening in the first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) contest.
The Lions climb to 10-6 on the year and 1-0 in the NECC with the win. The Wildcats slip to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in league action with the setback.
Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) racked up 24 kills, nine digs, and five service aces. Delfy Soler (Lawrence, Mass.) posted 15 kills and seven digs on the night. Aaron Huang (Quincy, Mass.) registered 37 assists and nine digs while Jacob Zarges (Quincy, Mass.) paced the squad with 11 digs.
The visitors claimed the opening set 25-18 to establish a 1-0 edge.
In the second frame, the home team fended off four match-points and scored seven of the final eight points to prevail 27-25 and level the match at 1-1.
Eastern Nazarene grabbed a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 decision in the third set.
SUNY Poly responded with a narrow 26-24 victory in the fourth to force a winner-take-all fifth set.
The Lions bounced back to triumph 15-9 in the fifth to clinch their ninth-consecutive win.
Jason Aubrey paced the Wildcats with 11 kills and 11 digs while Garrett Hassard also notched 11 kills. Nathan Farnham recorded 38 assists and Andrew Bertino collected 11 digs.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to the court March 12 to host SUNY Potsdam.
