Men’s Volleyball Prevails 3-0 at Newbury in NECC Action Wednesday
BROOKLINE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team notched a 3-0 victory over Newbury Wednesday evening at Hellenic College's Pappas Gymnasium.
The Lions climb to 6-6 on the year and 1-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with the win. The Nighthawks fall to 1-9 overall and 0-1 in league play with the loss.
Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) posted a match-high 17 kills while adding nine digs. Andrew Jayne (Quincy, Mass.) registered a career-best 10 kills and chipped in with seven digs. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) finished with nine digs, three kills, and a pair of blocks while Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) tallied five kills. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) dished out 32 assists and collected four digs.
The visitors seized the opening set 25-15 to snag a 1-0 edge in the match.
After falling behind early in the second frame, Eastern Nazarene clawed back to edge Newbury 25-23 with three consecutive points to close out the set to widen the gap to 2-0.
The Lions completed the sweep and ran their winning-streak to four matches with a 25-23 decision in a tightly-contested third set.
Trevor Thorne paced the Nighthawks with eight kills and Rory Dobbins added seven kills.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hits the road to take on five-time defending NECC champion Endicott February 23.
