
Men’s Volleyball Downed at Elms in NECC-Opener
CHICOPEE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at Elms Saturday evening in the first conference match of the season.
The Lions fall to 2-3 on the year and 0-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with the loss. The Blazers, who are receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches' Poll, improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in league action with the win.
Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) racked up a team-best 11 kills and four digs. James Garofalo (Commack, N.Y.) and Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) both tallied three kills. Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) finished with four total blocks and a pair of kills. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) recorded 17 assists and three digs.
The hosts cruised to a 25-3 victory in the opening set to snag a 1-0 lead.
Elms eked out a 25-23 decision in the second frame to widen the margin to 2-0.
The Blazers prevailed 25-23 in the third to lock up the conference win.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Emerson in a non-conference clash February 8.
