
Men’s Tennis Stymied by Stevens in NCAA Tournament
MIDDLEBURY, Vt.- The two-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference champion Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team fell to Stevens 5-0 Thursday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Lions finish the 2022 campaign with an 11-6 overall record. The Ducks, ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings, improve to 14-4 on the year and advance to face No. 4 Middlebury in the NCAA Tournament second round.
Stevens swept the three doubles matches to capture a 3-0 lead in the match.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Carlos Sanchez (Malaga, Spain) dropped a hard-fought tiebreaker 7-4 at the No. 1 doubles position, falling to Keegan Morris and Olof Persson 8-7.
Iago Alcover (Mallorca, Spain) and Carlos Gallardo (Tulua, Colombia) suffered an 8-1 setback against Troy Zhang and Marc Feliu at the second spot.
Simao Nobre (Lisbon, Portugal) and Avelino Parrondo (Madrid, Spain) absorbed an 8-4 loss at the No. 3 doubles slot.
The Ducks clinched the 5-0 victory with a pair of singles wins.
Diego Torres (Weston, Fla.) endured a 6-0, 6-2 setback to Matt Luzzi at the No. 6 singles position before Nobre fell to Vivek Harinaravan 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot.
When the match reached decision, Stevens owned a one-set advantage in the remaining four singles matches.
