
Davis Steelman Named CCC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Senior Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team collected his first career Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week nod, announced the league office Monday.
Steelman posted an 8-1 combined record on the week as the Lions went 4-1 in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He rattled off five singles victories to improve to a team-best 9-0 and to remain unbeaten in his last 11 matches. Steelman also teamed with Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) to put up a 3-1 record at the No. 3 doubles position.
In Eastern Nazarene's 5-4 win over Bridgewater (Va.), Steelman outlasted his opponent in a third-set super-tiebreaker 11-9 after claiming the first set 7-5 before dropping the second 7-6.
Steelman notched four straight-set victories in a row to close out the week, including a 7-5, 6-3 win at the sixth spot in the Lions' 8-1 loss to nationally-ranked NCAA Division II squad Palm Beach Atlantic.
Eastern Nazarene returns to the courts March 23 to host Salem State.
