Men’s Tennis Cruises by Curry 9-0 on Senior Day
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team captured a 9-0 victory over Curry Thursday afternoon in the final match of the regular season.
The Lions wrap up the regular season with an 8-9 record and a 5-3 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Colonels fall to 2-14 on the year and 1-7 in league play with the loss.
With the win, Eastern Nazarene secured the No. 4 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament and a quarterfinal home match for the third consecutive season.
The hosts glided to three doubles wins to seize a 3-0 lead.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) blanked Curry's Toma Blatchford and Valvel Temin 8-0 at the No. 1 spot.
Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and senior Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) breezed past Nicholas Ironside and Lucas Donaway at the second doubles position, 8-0.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) topped Cory Flax and Benjamin Katz 8-1 at the No. 3 slot.
Eastern Nazarene notched six singles victories to complete the sweep.
McKay-Corkum bested Blatchford at the top singles position 6-0, 6-0. Perron picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Temin at the No. 2 spot.
Paterno claimed a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 slot over Donaway while Steelman downed Flax 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth position.
Playing in his final regular season match for the Lions, Thompson netted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Ironside at the No. 5 spot.
Shane Bookhultz (New Freedom, Pa.) improved to 2-0 on the spring in singles action with a 6-2, 6-0 decision in the sixth singles match.
Up next, fourth-seeded Eastern Nazarene will host fifth-seeded Western New England in the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.
