
Men’s Tennis Opens 2012-13 Slate at Stonehill Doubles Invitational Saturday
EASTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men’s tennis team posted seven victories at the Stonehill Doubles Invitational to kick off the 2012-13 season Saturday.

Participating teams included Saint Anselm, Holy Cross, Endicott, Springfield, Curry, Salve Regina and the host Skyhawks.
Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) teamed up to reach the finals of the top flight. The duo picked up wins over Endicott's Olli Joggi and Jake Cohen in the quarterfinals and over Springfield's Kyle Mersereau and Ben Bornap in the semifinals. Steelman and Son fell to Chris Schwab and Nick Schwab of Saint Anselm College in the finals, 8-5.
In the "B" bracket, Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.) suffered an 8-3 loss in the opening round. The tandem bounced back to advance to the finals of the "B" Flight Consolation bracket with an 8-1 victory over Endicott's Justin Warshausky and Eric Gandrup in the semifinals. McKay-Corkum and Luz dropped the final match 8-5 to Springfield's Joe Gianelli and Jesse Boyd.
After falling 8-2 in the first round of the "C" Flight, Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) and Kevin Paterno (Quincy, Mass.) rallied to capture the "C" Consolation Bracket title. Perron and Paterno defeated Khoa Nyugen and Monaf Awwa of Salve Regina before topping Zac Goldstein and Cody Rodrigues from Springfield College to capture the championship.
Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) and Greg Parenteau (Wolcott, Conn.) downed Paul Jeppersen and Ben Katz of Curry in the quarterfinals of the "D" Flight Bracket before suffering an 8-2 loss to Tyler Lemieux and Tim Ferance from Endicott in the semifinals.
Richard Crooks (Collegeville, Pa.) and Weston Jordan (Churchville, Md.) dropped their opening match in the "D" Flight but rebounded to reach the finals of the "D" Flight Consolation Bracket. Crooks and Jordan prevailed 8-4 against Saint Anselm's Matthew Greeke and John Joyce in the semifinals. The pair fell to Taylor Whitcomb and William Brosnan from Stonehill in the finale.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host the ENC Invitational September 15. The Lions will look to defend their title after cruising to the team crown a year ago.
