QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 2-0 win over New England College Saturday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions climb to 12-6-1 on the year and 5-0-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the victory. The Pilgrims fall to 7-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play with the decision.
With the win, Eastern Nazarene clinches the top seed in the NECC Tournament and will host fourth-seeded Lesley in the semifinals November 3.
The hosts vaulted ahead by a goal, 1-0, in the 25th minute as Guillermo Garcia (Leon, Spain) blasted in his fourth tally of the campaign.
The Lions held a 1-0 edge at the break and a narrow 6-5 margin in shot attempts through 45 minutes.
Eastern Nazarene widened the gap to 2-0 with a strike in the 62nd minute. Denser Martinez (Cumberland, R.I.) found the back of the net with a curling, left-footed shot to notch his third marker of the season.
The home side finished the match with 14 shots while the visitors attempted seven.
Goalkeeper Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) posted one save to register his second clean sheet of the year.
