QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play with a 2-1 victory over Mitchell Saturday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions climb to 10-6-0 on the year and 3-0-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with the win. The Mariners sink to 0-11-3 overall and 0-2-2 in league action with the result.
The guests jumped ahead 1-0 with a strike in the 26th minute. Nicholas Ghirardi netted his team-leading third goal of the season while Mason Rubino picked up the assist.
In the 31st minute, the home team chalked up the equalizing score to pull even at 1-1. Jaime Romero (Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain) tallied his first marker of the season as he knocked in a corner kick delivery from Leonardo Castro (Katy, Texas).
The two teams battled to a 1-1 deadlock in the opening 45 minutes of action with Eastern Nazarene owning a 12-6 margin in first-half shots.
Eastern Nazarene snagged a one-goal edge in the 57th minute, 2-1, on an own goal.
The Lions racked up 23 attempts in the contest while the Mariners fired 10 shots.
Sophomore Erik Berg (Hadley, Mass.) finished with two saves in his first collegiate start between the sticks. Senior Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) notched one save in 34 minutes of relief action in net.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will travel to Mitchell October 26.
