QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to UMass-Boston Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions slip to 9-6-0 on the season with the setback while the Beacons improve to 11-2-1 overall.
The guests snagged a 1-0 edge in the 35th minute. Denilson Goncalves headed in his third tally of the season, finishing off a cross from Diego Gisholt.
UMass-Boston doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 39th minute. Logan Erickson Potter bagged his first collegiate goal after Goncalves' slotted pass setup the strike.
Eastern Nazarene trailed 2-0 at the break while the Beacons owned an 11-1 advantage in shots through 45 minutes of play.
The Lions got on the board in the 56th minute to trim the gap to 2-1. Lando David (Muenster, Germany) notched his first collegiate goal as he redirected a free kick driven into the box by Michael Frotscher (Tramin, Italy).
The visitors reclaimed a two-goal cushion in the 66th minute, 3-1. Emelson Barbosa netted his second marker of the year as he headed home a corner kick service from Gisholt.
UMass-Boston stretched the margin to 4-1 with a score in the 87th minute. Nilton De Andrade buried his team-leading 16th goal of the season with a right-footed, curling effort.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the contest with six shots while the Beacons produced 23 shot attempts.
Antonio Soto Valente (Maracaibo, Venezuela) made his eighth start of the season between the pipes and recorded one save. Mauricio Marun (Mexico City, Mexico) made his second-straight appearance, coming off the bench in the 17th minute and finishing with five saves.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference competition October 23 as it hosts Mitchell.
