HENNIKER, N.H.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team began its title defense with a 1-0 victory at New England College Saturday evening in the first league match of the fall.
The Lions climb to 8-4-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with their fifth-straight win. The Pilgrims sink to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference competition with the setback.
The two squads played to a scoreless first half with the home side holding an 8-5 margin in shot attempts.
Eastern Nazarene netted the contest's lone score in the 53rd minute. Michael Frotscher (Tramin, Italy) fired home his second tally of the campaign as Sheelens Ostine (Quincy, Mass.) dished out his third assist.
The Lions finished with 14 shots on the night while New England College generated 17 attempts.
Antonio Soto Valente (Maracaibo, Venezuela) made five saves between the pipes to record his third clean sheet.
