Men’s Soccer Triumphs 3-2 in OT at Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- Junior Bryan Vargas (San Jose, Costa Rica) netted the golden goal in the 100th minute to propel the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team to a dramatic 3-2 victory at Framingham State Tuesday.

The Lions improve to 7-4-0 with their fourth-straight win while the Rams slide to 2-10-0 overall.

The guests grabbed a quick 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute. Vargas headed in his team-leading sixth goal of the season while Michael Frotscher (Tramin, Italy) picked up his second helper of the year.

Framingham State pulled even at 1-1 with a score in the 29th minute. Kunphel Sinha drilled a long-range shot into the right side of the cage to collect his fourth tally of the fall.

The two teams were deadlocked through a tightly-contested opening 45 minutes of play with Eastern Nazarene holding a narrow 7-6 edge in shots.

The Lions regained a one-goal lead in the 50th minute as Sheelens Ostine (Quincy, Mass.) buried his first marker of the year to put the away team in front 2-1.

Framingham State manufactured a late equalizer to knot the contest at 2-2. Nicholas Santos knocked in his first career goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation.

The Rams sported an 18-9 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks through 90 minutes of action.

Eastern Nazarene tallied the game-winning goal in the late stages of the first overtime period. Vargas notched his second strike of the match as he flicked a corner kick service from Leonardo Castro (Katy, Texas) into the back of the net.

The Lions registered 13 shots on the afternoon and earned four corner kicks. Framingham State finished with 20 attempts and four corners.

Antonio Soto Valente (Maracaibo, Venezuela) posted six saves in his sixth start of the fall.
