LEWISTON, Maine- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team absorbed a 2-0 loss at Bates Tuesday evening in the first-ever meeting between the two sides.
The Lions fall to 3-4-0 overall with the decision while the Bobcats improve to 4-1-0 on the year.
The hosts produced the game's opening goal in the 29th minute to jump ahead 1-0. Max Elsasser netted his first tally of the year off of an assist by Bobby Dall.
Eastern Nazarene fired five first-half shots while Bates registered six attempts.
The Bobcats doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute on an unassisted strike by Alec Szwarcewicz.
The Lions finished with 14 shots in the contest as Jaime Romero (Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain) recorded four shots and Sheelens Ostine (Quincy, Mass.) added two shots on frame. Bates concluded the match with 11 shots and an 8-5 edge in corner kicks earned.
Antonio Soto Valente (Maracaibo, Venezuela) made his fourth start of the season between the pipes for the visitors.
