QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to Bridgewater State Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium in the first matchup since 1991 between the two teams.
The Lions slip to 3-3-0 overall with the decision while the Bears improve to 2-2-0 on the year.
The visitors benefitted from an early own goal to take a 1-0 lead in the second minute of the match.
Eastern Nazarene trailed 1-0 at the break despite owning a 10-3 margin in first-half shot attempts.
Bridgewater State doubled its advantage to 2-0 in the 49th minute. Robson Montrond bagged his second goal of the season as Carsten Boloz picked up the assist.
The Lions cut the deficit to 2-1 with a strike in the 55th minute. Leonardo Castro (Katy, Texas) lasered in his first marker of the year and Manuel Vibot (Valladolid, Spain) added his first assist of the fall.
The home team pushed for an equalizer and nearly leveled the match in the 83rd minute as Carlos Moya (Oviedo, Spain) rang a header off the crossbar.
Eastern Nazarene racked up 25 shots on the night while earning 11 corner kicks. Bridgewater State recorded 16 shots and finished with 13 corners in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) posted seven saves in his third start of the fall.
