QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team collected its fifth-straight victory Wednesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium, downing Fitchburg State 2-1 in non-league play.
The Lions, off to their best start since 1995, improve to 5-1-0 on the year with the win while the Falcons drop to 2-2-1 overall.
The home side grabbed a 1-0 edge in the 18th minute. Charlie Swann (London, England) tallied his league-leading eighth goal of the season, burying a through-ball provided by Prem Subedi (Scranton, Pa.).
The visitors equalized in the 26th minute to pull even at 1-1. Marckdonard Bastien netted his first marker of the fall and Zachary Buckland picked up an assist.
The two teams headed into the halftime intermission knotted at 1-1. Eastern Nazarene produced nine first-half shots while Fitchburg State attempted four.
The Lions regained a one-goal advantage in the 56th minute, 2-1. Carlos Moya (Oviedo, Spain) collected his second tally of the season as he knocked in his own rebound.
The hosts finished the match with 19 shot attempts as the Falcons fired nine shots on the night.
Junior netminder Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) finished with three saves in his first start of the fall.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene travels to Elms September 21 in the first New England Collegiate Conference match of the season.
