Men’s Soccer Edged by University of New England, 1-0
NORTH QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of New England Saturday afternoon at Creedon Field.
The Lions fall to 0-6-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Nor'easters improve to 2-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play with the win.
The visitors bagged an early goal to seize a 1-0 lead. Dexter Doucet rifled a left-footed shot into the back of the net in the 14th minute to collect his second marker of the fall.
Eastern Nazarene trailed by a goal at the half and registered three shots in the opening frame. The University of New England fired seven shots in the first 45 minutes of action and held a narrow 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Nor'easters secured their first conference win of the year as neither team scored in the second stanza.
The home side concluded the contest with four shots while the guests attempted 17 on the day.
Rookie Quinn Smith (Galway, N.Y.) fired a team-high three shots in the match while Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) recorded the Lions' other attempt in the game.
Sophomore netminder Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) made six saves between the posts in his second start of the season.
