BROOKLINE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team absorbed a 2-1 loss at Newbury Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions descend to 0-4-0 on the year with the loss while the Nighthawks improve to 2-3-0 overall.
After a closely-contest opening half, the two teams headed into the halftime break knotted at 0-0.
The visitors produced six shots in the first 45 minutes of play while the home side fired seven shots.
Newbury got on the board in the 74th minute to seize a 1-0 lead. Nilton De Andrade scored his second goal of the season off of an assist by Carlos Diego.
The Nighthawks tacked on a score in the 81st minute to widen the gap to 2-0 on De Andrade's second tally of the game.
The Lions got on the board in the 90th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 as rookie Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) buried his first goal of the season.
Eastern Nazarene finished the match with 10 shots while Newbury registered 23 attempts on the day.
Joao Costa (Framingham, Mass.) and Quinn Smith (Galway, N.Y.) both fired three shots in the contest to lead the Lions.
Sophomore netminder Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.) gathered up 10 saves in his first start of the season.
