Men’s Soccer Welcomes Five Newcomers for 2014
QUINCY, Mass.- Eastern Nazarene men's soccer head coach Dan Visser has announced that five newcomers will join the program in the fall for the 2014 campaign.
Omar Cruz, Salvatore Cuneo, Nick Fernandez, Chris Garcia and Logan Smith will all join the Lions in the fall.
Cruz is a midfielder out of Gaithersburg, Maryland where he is attending Quince Orchard High School. He also plays for Montgomery MSC Magic Green. Cruz is a three-time futsal national champion and a two-time Maryland State Cup finalist. He has played at the annual Disney Showcase and Surf Cup Tournaments while also traveling to Spain with his Olympic Development Program (ODP) team. Cruz also helped the Quince Orchard Cougars capture a division title in his senior year.
Cuneo is a striker/midfielder from Birmingham, Alabama where he currently attends Evangel Christian School. He also plays at the club level for Vestavia Hills Soccer Club where he helped his squad to a third-place finish in the National League in 2013-14.
A product of Foster, Rhode Island, Fernandez is a defender attending Ponaganset High School. He has been tabbed to the all-division first and second teams while playing for the Chieftans. Fernandez also represents Scituate Youth Soccer Association during the club season.
Garcia is a midfielder and defender playing primarily on the left side of the pitch. He hails from Gaithersburg, Maryland where he currently attends Gaithersburg High School. Garcia also plays for Montgomery MSC Magic Green at the club level. He is a two-time futsal national champion and a two-time Maryland State Cup finalist.
A defender and midfielder, Smith is a native of Hampton, Virginia. He attends Kecoughtan High School and was an all-conference first team defender for the Warriors. Smith also competes at the club level for Virginia Legacy.
Eastern Nazarene opens the 2014 season August 30 with a non-conference home match against Newbury.
