Men's Soccer Comes Up Short at University of New England, 2-1
BIDDEFORD, Maine.- The Eastern Nazarene men's soccer fell 2-1 on the road at the University of New England Saturday afternoon.
The Lions sink to 2-10-0 on the season and 0-5-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference matches. The Nor'easters rise to 6-5-3 overall and 1-3-1 in league contests with the win.
The University of New England got on the board early in the match, netting the game's first goal just 1:41 into play. Tyler Garnick tallied his fifth goal of the season to give the Nor'easters a 1-0 lead.
The hosts added a marker in the 24th minute to extend the gap to 2-0. Will Bushey nodded a corner kick delivery by Anthony Frangione into the back of the net for his first score of the year.
The University of New England held a 2-0 lead at the midway point of the contest.
Eastern Nazarene generated nine shots in the first half while the Nor'easters managed six shots and earned four corners.
The home team was forced to play down a man for the final 32:33 after the University of New England goalkeeper was issued a red card.
The Lions cut the deficit in half, 2-1, late in the second frame. Pacifique Jabiro (Portland, Maine) buried his first goal of the season in the 88th minute while Jacob Mason (Southport, England) picked up his first assist of the year.
Eastern Nazarene concluded the game with 20 shots, including eight on target. The Nor'easters registered seven shots on the day, with three aimed on goal.
Goalkeeper Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) recorded one save in the contest for the visitors.
