Men’s Lacrosse Drops Home-Opener to NVU-Lyndon, 12-3
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's lacrosse team fell to Northern Vermont-Lyndon 12-3 in the program's first-ever home contest Tuesday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Lions sink to 0-3 on the season with the outcome while the Hornets improve to 1-2 overall.
Jamar Griggs (Stamford, Conn.) netted a pair of goals while Xavier Depina (Whitman, Mass.) tallied one goal and Devano Clarke (Lucea, Jamaica) added one assist. Jimmy Keuther (Marshfield, Mass.) paced the squad with eight ground balls.
The home side opened the scoring early in the first quarter as Griggs buried his team-leading fourth goal of the spring as Clarke picked up his first collegiate assist.
The visitors notched two goals in the opening frame to hold a 2-1 edge through 15 minutes of action.
Northern Vermont-Lyndon manufactured six goals in the second period to widen the gap to 8-1 at the halftime intermission.
The Hornets chalked up two scores in the third to push their advantage to 10-1.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to 10-2 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter as Griggs scored his second goal of the night.
The guests responded with a pair of goals midway through the final frame to extend their lead to 12-2.
With 7:19 left in regulation, Xavier Depina fired home his first career goal to narrow the margin to 12-3.
Ryan Almeida (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) racked up 19 saves in his third start in net.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene heads to St. Joseph (Conn.) March 16.
