Eastern Nazarene Names Mark Wirth First-Ever Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach
QUINCY, Mass.- Eastern Nazarene College Director of Athletics Dr. Brad Zarges has announced the hiring of Mark Wirth as the first-ever head men's lacrosse coach in school history while Edwin Romero also joins the coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Wirth will guide the Lions' men's lacrosse team as the program launches it's first-ever varsity season in the spring of 2022.
"We are excited to announce Mark Wirth as our Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. Mark comes to ENC after several stops where he has gained invaluable experience. The head coaches at schools where he has served as an assistant have all noted his love for the game, the student-athletes, and his family. Mark also desires to intentionally integrate faith into his work, a reflection of his commitment to the Lord" said Zarges. "The experiences he brings with him will be invaluable to work through the challenges of a first year men's lacrosse program. We are excited for what will happen this year and for years to come under his leadership."
"First, I would like to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. I would also like to thank President Dr. Jack Connell, Dr. Bill McCoy, Dr. Brad Zarges, and the rest of the hiring committee for allowing me and my family join this campus community and share the vision I have for this program, commented Wirth. "I am looking forward to getting started and working with everyone here at ENC. We are going to build things OUR WAY!"
Wirth comes to Eastern Nazarene following a one-year stint as a volunteer assistant at Coast Guard where he worked primarily with the Bears' face-off specialists.
Prior to his arrival at Coast Guard, Wirth served as the head men's lacrosse coach at Becker College for one season after two seasons as an assistant coach at Connecticut College and one season as Director of Lacrosse Operations at Lehigh University.
Wirth graduated from Lock Haven Univeristy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Administration in 2016 and earned a Master's Degree from Lock Haven in 2018.
Romero joins the Lions' coaching staff after serving as a volunteer coach with Citylax based in Brooklyn, New York. Prior that, he spent one season as an assistant coach at Wheelock College in Boston. Romero played four years of collegiate lacrosse, spending two seasons at Dean before wrapping up his collegiate playing career at Wheelock.
