
Men’s Hoops Prevails at Lesley Sunday, 88-75
MEDFORD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team earned an 88-75 non-conference victory at Lesley Sunday afternoon.
The Lions climb to 11-9 on the year with the win while the Lynx fall to 2-15 overall.
Bernie McGuinness (Cumming, Ga.) posted his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Corey McGhee (Alexandria, Va.) netted 13 points and collected eight boards. Ozzy Traill III (Valley Stream, N.Y.) notched 12 points and eight rebounds. Deonta Pearson (Westland, Mich.) and Ka'Shaun Swan (Lawrenceville, Ga.) both poured in 12 points off the bench while Levi Grady-White (Springfield, Mass.) added 10 points.
The visitors forged a 20-0 run spanning over five minutes to manufacture a 30-14 advantage with 6:34 left to play in the first frame.
The home team trimmed the gap to 32-28 on a layup by Marco Powells with 3:30 remaining in the half.
Eastern Nazarene headed into the halftime break hanging on to a 38-32 lead.
The Lions shot 42.9% from the floor and drained 3-of-15 from behind the arc in the first half. Lesley compiled a field-goal percentage of 41.2% in the opening period while shooting 15.4% from three-point range.
The Lynx netted nine unanswered points to seize a 49-48 edge with 15:36 on the clock.
A 7-0 run pushed Eastern Nazarene ahead by six with 12:46 remaining in regulation, 59-53.
The Lions reclaimed a double-digit advantage, 73-62, as Traill splashed a three-pointer with 7:01 left to play.
Eastern Nazarene outscored Lesley 7-4 in the final four minutes of action to secure its third win in a row.
The visitors concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 48.6% despite finishing with a 7-for-26 clip from three-point territory. The hosts shot 41.4% from the deck and 25% from outside the arc on the afternoon.
Powells paced the Lynx with 20 points and nine rebounds on the day while Davion Fields chipped in with 16 points and Auston Slay added 13 points.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will travel to Mitchell February 9.
