Men’s Basketball Nets Road Win at NVU-Lyndon
LYNDON, Vt.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team notched an 87-58 victory at Northern Vermont-Lyndon Tuesday evening.
The Lions improve to 5-4 on the year with the win while the Hornets fall to 1-4 overall.
Bernie McGuinness (Cumming, Ga.) posted his second double-double of the season with a game-high 26 points to go with 13 rebounds. Corey McGhee (Alexandria, Va.) tallied 15 points and grabbed eight boards. Nick Manso (Brick, N.J.) chipped in with 15 points while Levi Grady-White (Springfield, Mass.) added eight points and 10 rebounds.
The home team grabbed an eight-point advantage with 15:05 left to play in the first half on a basket and free throw by Zach Falkenburg, 16-8.
The visitors strung together a 9-1 run to pull even at 17-17 with 12:02 remaining in the opening period.
Eastern Nazarene captured its first lead of the game with 7:56 on the clock, 21-20, as McGhee banked in a layup.
A put-back layup at the halftime horn by McGuinness capped off a 9-0 run by the Lions to close out the first frame as the guests held a 35-23 lead.
Eastern Nazarene boasted a field-goal percentage of 41.2% at the half and connected on just 1-of-3 attempts from behind the arc. Northern Vermont-Lyndon shot 25% from the floor and from three-point range in the first 20 minutes of action.
The Lions stretched the gap to 29 with 1:19 remaining on a layup by Lukas Battisti (New South Wales, Australia), 85-56.
Eastern Nazarene shot 46.8% from the floor and drilled 6-of-12 from long distance on the night. The Hornets finished the game with a field-goal percentage of 32.1% to go with 7-for-25 shooting from deep.
Falkenburg paced Northern Vermont-Lyndon with 18 points while Max Milton contributed with eight points and Antonio Carlisle recorded seven points.
