
Men’s Basketball Clipped at Rhode Island College, 89-75
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team suffered an 89-75 setback at Rhode Island College Tuesday evening.
The Lions move to 1-1 on the year with the result while the Anchormen improve to 2-0 overall.
Bernie McGuinness (Cumming, Ga.) netted a team-high 21 points to go with four boards. Corey McGhee (Alexandria, Va.) posted 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Levi Grady-White (Springfield, Mass.) finished with 14 points and a team-best seven boards. Nick Manso (Brick, N.J.) contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
The hosts seized a nine-point advantage with 5:28 to go in the first half, 29-20, on a layup by Shion Darby.
Eastern Nazarene trailed 42-34 at the half and posted a field-goal percentage of 44.8% in the opening frame while Rhode Island College shot 50% from the floor.
The visitors trimmed the deficit to 54-51 as Manso splashed a three-pointer with 14:03 remaining.
The Lions pulled to within two with 9:33 on the clock as McGuinness converted two shots from the charity stripe, 63-61.
Rhode Island College responded with an 8-0 run to push its lead to double-digits, 71-61, with 6:51 left to play.
The Lions shot 43.3% from the floor and 26.7% from three-point territory on the night. The Anchormen finished with a field-goal percentage of 51.4% while draining 13-of-29 from behind the arc.
Keyshaun Jacobs poured in a game-high 29 points while Jordan Riley scored 22 points. Darby notched 19 points and Ousmane Kourouma hauled in 13 boards.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will host Salem State in the first home game of the season November 11.
