Men’s Basketball Clipped by New England College, 82-73
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team suffered an 82-73 setback to New England College Friday afternoon at the Lahue Athletic Center.
The Lions dip to 2-3 on the year with the result while the Pilgrims improve to 6-3 overall.
David Lopez (Miami, Fla.) netted a team-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Ka'Shaun Swan (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished with 15 points off the bench. Ozzy Traill III (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied nine points and dished out three assists while Corey McGhee (Alexandria, Va.) collected 10 boards.
The home team pushed its lead to seven, 35-28, with 2:31 remaining in the first half as Lopez knocked down a turn-around, baseline jumper.
Eastern Nazarene clung to a 39-35 edge at the halftime intermission after shooting 51.4% from the floor and just 21.4% from beyond the arc. New England College posted a field-goal percentage of 36.4% in the opening stanza while connecting on 8-of-15 from three-point territory.
Lopez led all scorers with 13 points to go with four rebounds in the first 20 minutes of action while Swan and Shawn Wright (Baltimore, Md.) each added six points.
After seven lead-changes and three tie scores in a back-and-forth second half, the visitors outscored the Lions 47-34 to claim their sixth-straight victory.
Jamal Allen poured in a game-high 20 points while Devon Okowuga notched 17 points and Michael Tavilla registered 16 points for the Pilgrims.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will travel to New England College April 3 to wrap up the weekend series.
