Men’s Basketball Suffers Non-League Loss at UMass-Boston
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team dropped a 66-37 decision at UMass-Boston Thursday evening in non-conference action.
The Lions slide to 0-2 on the season while the Beacons improve to 1-0 overall with the result.
Noah Cheney (Bend, Ore.) poured in a team-high nine points off the bench. Ricky Shearman (Acworth, Ga.) finished with six points, five rebounds, and three assists in the contest. Garrett Crandell (Bristol, Tenn.) and Will Zarges (Quincy, Mass.) each chipped in with six points.
The hosts raced out to a 12-2 lead eight minutes into the game.
An 11-0 run pushed UMass-Boston's advantage to 20 points, 32-12, with 3:28 left to play in the first frame.
Eastern Nazarene trailed 39-17 at the half after shooting 25.9% from the floor in the opening period. The Beacons boasted a field-goal percentage of 43.8% in the first half and drained 7-of-11 three-point attempts.
The home side outscored the visitors 27-20 in the second stanza as UMass-Boston cruised to its first win of the season.
The Lions were limited to 27.1% shooting on the night while connecting on 5-of-21 from behind the arc. The Beacons posted a field-goal percentage of 39.4% with a 41.7% clip from three-point range.
Charlie Mitchell netted 16 points while Charles Mitchell tallied 15 points to lead UMass-Boston.
Looking, Eastern Nazarene heads to MIT November 16 for a non-conference tilt.
