
Men’s Hoops Drops 92-81 Decision at Western New England
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team fell 92-81 on the road at Western New England Saturday afternoon.
The Lions move to 6-11 on the year and 2-8 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Golden Bears improve to 8-8 overall and 5-5 in league action with the victory.
Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass.) netted 18 points to lead the team. Trey'von Davis (Moore, S.C.) posted his third double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 10 boards. Noah Cheney (Bend, Ore.) registered 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jacob Waldroop (Newland, N.C.) flirted with a triple-double as he recorded nine points, nine boards, and eight assists on the day.
The home side produced an 11-2 lead five minutes into the contest, capped off by a dunk by Zach Tavitian.
The guests whittled the deficit to 12-9 with 13:31 left to play in the first half as Cheney sank a pair of free throws.
Western New England stretched its advantage to 35-21 with 6:15 remaining in the opening stanza on a jumper by Mike McGuire.
Eastern Nazarene trailed 43-26 at halftime.
The Lions battled back to narrow the gap to single-digits with 5:25 remaining in regulation, 72-63, on a layup by Davis.
The visitors pulled to within seven, 76-69, as Cheney canned a trey with 3:22 on the clock.
The Golden Bears outscored Eastern Nazarene 16-12 down the stretch to lock up their second consecutive win.
The Lions concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 51.9% to go with 9-of-24 shooting from behind the arc. Western New England shot 50% from the floor and 30.8% from long range on the day.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts Salve Regina in a midweek matchup January 24.
