Baseball Dealt 9-8 Loss at Lesley in Extra Innings

LEXINGTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team dropped a 9-8 decision in 11 innings at Lesley Sunday afternoon.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Lions pushed across one run in the top of the second to establish a 1-0 lead. Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) crossed the dish on an RBI groundout by Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.).
• Lesley leveled the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second inning.
• Eastern Nazarene manufactured five runs in the third to claim a 6-1 advantage. Kelvin Cortez (Corona, N.Y.) scampered home from second base on a bunt single by Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.). Elvis Rojas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) both scored as Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) reached on a defensive miscue. Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) laced a single to left field to drive in Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) and Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.).
• The Lynx responded with five runs in the fourth to pull even at 6-6.
• The visitors produced a run in the top of the seventh inning to recapture a one-run edge, 7-6. Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) scurried home from third base on a wild pitch.
• Lesley rallied to chalk up one run in the bottom of the seventh to knot the contest at 7-7.
• Eastern Nazarene picked up the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning to seize an 8-7 edge. Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) raked a base knock to left field to plate Elvis Rojas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic).
• The home side generated a pair of runs in the bottom of the 11th to clinch a 9-8 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Brandon Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) collected a team-high three hits.
• Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) posted two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
• Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) finished with two base knocks, one RBI, and a run scored.
• Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in with two RBIs and one hit while Elvis Rojas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) added two runs scored and one base hit.
• Morgan Weast (Cincinnati, Ohio) tossed three innings and recorded one strikeout. David Carey (Greenfield, Mass.) worked three frames in his fourth relief appearance. Jon Tessier (Coronado, Calif.) threw 4.2 innings in his second relief outing and fanned six batters. Kelvin Cortez (Corona, N.Y.) and Dale Beneway (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) also made relief appearances.
