Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Mary Washington
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team began its spring break trip to the Palmetto State with an 8-3 win over Mary Washington before falling 18-5 in the nightcap Friday.
GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 8, Mary Washington 3
Records: Lions (3-0) | Eagles (6-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eastern Nazarene generated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to capture a 2-0 lead. Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) scampered home from third base on an RBI groundout by Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) before Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) scored from third as Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) reached on an error.
- The Lions exploded for five runs in the third inning to widen the margin to 7-0. Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) scorched a single to drive in Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) from second base and Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) scored on a double-steal as Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) swiped second. Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) scurried home from third base on a wild pitch before Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.). Eduardo Labour (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) raked a base hit up the middle to plate Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) from third base.
- Mary Washington got on the board with two runs in the top half of the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-2.
- Eastern Nazarene tacked on a run in the home half of the fourth frame to extend its advantage to 8-2. Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) crossed the dish for the third time in the game as Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) reached on defensive miscue in the outfield.
- The Eagles manufactured a run in the sixth inning to narrow the gap to 8-3. Andrew Gerba roped a pinch-hit double to centerfield to drive in Bobby Ayscue from second base.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) notched three hits, two runs scored, one RBI, and a stolen base.
- Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) scored three runs and added a stolen base.
- Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) finished with two RBIs, one run scored, and one stolen base.
- Eduardo Labour (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) chipped in with one base knock, one RBI, and a stolen base while Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) contributed with one hit, one run scored, and one stolen base.
- Spencer Boynton (Tampa, Fla.) pitched a complete game and registered eight strikeouts while scattering just two walks and one earned run in his second start of the season on the mound.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Mary Washington chalked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to seize a 2-0 lead.
- Eastern Nazarene answered with two scores in the second to level the contest at 2-2. Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) smacked a single to left-centerfield to plate Brandon Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) and Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.).
- The Eagles regained the lead with a run in the home half of the second, 3-2, as Bobby Ayscue drew a bases-loaded walk to knock in Ryan Schwarz.
- The Lions responded with one run in the top of the third to tie the game at 3-3. Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) motored home from third base as Ethaniel Almendarez (Lynn, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice.
- Mary Washington scored six runs in the bottom of the frame to claim a 9-3 advantage.
- The Eagles tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 11-3.
- Mary Washington generated seven runs in the fifth inning to stretch the gap to 18-3.
- Eastern Nazarene tallied two runs in the sixth to trim the deficit to 18-5. Ruddy Vidal (Barahona, Dominican Republic) crushed his first career home run, a two-run blast to drive in Matt Serrata (Ozone Park, N.Y.).

Dale Beneway (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) pitched two-thirds of an inning and finished with two strikeouts in his second relief appearance. O'Neil Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.) hurled two-thirds of an inning in his first outing of the spring. Reegan Thomas (Standish, Maine) made his collegiate debut on the hill and fanned three batters in one inning of work. Luke Descheneaux (Lowell, Mass.) threw one inning and struck out two in his first collegiate pitching appearance.
