Baseball Sweeps Plymouth State in Season-Opening Series
WEYMOUTH, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team posted a pair of victories over Plymouth State Sunday afternoon at Libby Field in the first games of the 2023 campaign. The Lions topped the Panthers 7-4 in the season-opener before earning a 14-7 win in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 7, Plymouth State 4

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eastern Nazarene produced three runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab a 3-0 lead. Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) belted a two-run homer to left field to drive in Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) before Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.) launched a solo home run.
- The Lions tacked on a run in the third inning to widen the margin to 4-0. Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) scampered home from third base after an errant throw on pickoff attempt at first base.
- Plymouth State got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-2. Jackson Curtis singled to score Danny Quinn and Nick Healey.
- The Panthers scored twice in the fifth to level the game at 4-4. Luke Sokolski crossed the dish as Danny Quinn reached on a fielder's choice. Nick Healey recorded an infield single to plate Alex Rives from third base.
- Eastern Nazarene reclaimed a three-run advantage in the home half of the seventh inning, 7-4, as Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) laced a double down the right field line to drive in Brandon Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) and Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.). Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to knock in Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) from third.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) posted a pair of hits while driving in two RBIs and adding one run scored.
- Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) collected three RBIs while landing one hit and scoring one run.
- Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.) chipped in with one base knock, one RBI, and one run scored.
- Spencer Boynton (Tampa, Fla.) tossed 4.2 innings and registered four strikeouts in his first start of the spring. Morgan Weast (Cincinnati, Ohio) worked 4.1 scoreless innings of relief and fanned six batters in his first outing of the season.

- Eastern Nazarene snagged an early 1-0 edge as Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) clobbered a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
- Plymouth State plated one run in the third to tie the game at 1-1 as Chris Faherty scored from third on a double play.
- The Panthers generated three runs in the fourth inning to capture a 4-1 advantage. Jackson Curtis slapped a single to right field to drive in Joshua Welsh and Danny Quinn. Chris Faherty followed with an RBI groundout to plate Sam Malgeri.
- The Lions tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the deficit to 4-3. Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) scorched a single up the middle to knock in Kelvin Cortez (Corona, N.Y.) from second base. Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) crossed the dish on a two-out double by Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.).
- Eastern Nazarene exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to establish a 10-4 lead. Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.), Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.), Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.), Eduardo Labour (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), and Juan Jacobo Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) all picked up RBIs in the frame.
- The home side tacked on a run in the seventh to stretch its advantage to 11-4 as Kelvin Cortez (Corona, N.Y.) scurried home from third on a wild pitch.
- Plymouth State manufactured three runs in the top of the eighth narrow the margin to 11-7. Sam Malegri roped a double to left-centerfield to score Joshua Welsh and Danny Quinn. Chris Faherty landed an RBI single in centerfield to plate Sam Malgeri.
- The Lions responded with three runs in the home half of the eighth inning to reclaim a seven-run cushion, 14-7. Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) bounced a single up the middle to drive in John Prentice (Saugus, Mass.) and Juan Jacobo Lopez (San Diego, Calif.). Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) followed with an infield hit to knock in Kelvin Cortez (Corona, N.Y.).

Jon Tessier (Coronado, Calif.) hurled 3.2 innings of relief and chalked up three strikeouts.
