Baseball Earns 14-1 Win, Ties 6-6 at Lesley Saturday
WINCHESTER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team rolled to a 14-1 victory before settling for a 6-6 tie at Lesley Saturday afternoon.
The Lions move to 16-13-1 on the year and 4-3-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the decisions. The Lynx progress to 13-16-1 overall and 1-5-1 in league play with the results.
Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) notched four hits, five RBIs, three runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases. Brandon Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) collected three hits, two RBIs, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Steven Pesce (Harrison, N.Y.) finished with three base knocks, two RBIs, one stolen base, and a run scored. Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) chipped in with two hits, two RBIs, one run scored, and a stolen base.
In game one, Eastern Nazarene cruised to a 14-1 win for its fourth-consecutive victory.
The visitors chalked up one run in the top of the first inning to seize a 1-0 edge. Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) roped a double to left field to drive in Bean from second base.
The home side tallied a run in the bottom of the frame to level the score at 1-1. Adam Budorick tagged up and scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Ronnie James.
Eastern Nazarene produced four runs in the fourth to claim a 5-1 advantage. Ethaniel Almendarez (Lynn, Mass.) and Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.) drew back-to-back bases-load walks to plate McNamara and Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.). Guerrero laced a single to left field to knock in Juan Jacobo Lopez (San Diego, Calif.). Almendarez scampered home from third base on an RBI groundout by Landeiro.
The Lions tacked on five runs in the fifth inning to widen the margin to 10-1. Jacobo Lopez raked a single to left field to drive in McNamara before Almendarez singled to score Roldan. Jacobo Lopez crossed the dish as Guerrero reached on an error. Bean followed with a base knock to plate Almendarez and Guerrero.
The guests added a run in the sixth to stretch their lead to 11-1. Jimenez slapped a two-out double to left field to drive in Almendarez from second base.
Eastern Nazarene plated three runs in the seventh inning to push its advantage to 14-1. McNamara scorched a triple to the gap in right-center to plate Pesce and Bean. Roldan followed with a base knock to left field to score McNamara.
Jon Tessier (Coronado, Calif.) threw his third-straight complete game and fanned seven batters to improve to 7-0 on the mound.
In game two, the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie as the contest was called due to inclement weather at the conclusion of the sixth inning.
The home team manufactured a run in the bottom of the first inning to nab a 1-0 lead. Budorick crossed the dish as Cal Caruso grounded into a double play.
Lesley produced four runs in the second to extend its advantage to 5-0. Budorick singled to left-centerfield to knock in Matthew Ceruti before tagging up and motoring home on a sacrifice fly by James Brandon. Dylan Langston followed with a base hit to plate Justin Dennett. With the bases full, Colby Jacobs drew a two-out walk to score Caruso.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the top of the third inning, scoring once to cut the deficit to 5-1. Pesce laced a single to left field to pick up his team-leading 29th RBI of the season, driving in Landeiro.
The Lions pushed across two runs in the fourth to narrow the gap to 5-3. Jimenez raked a singled to centerfield to plate Jacobo Lopez. Bean lifted a sacrifice fly to score Jimenez from third base.
The Lynx tallied one run in the home half of the fourth inning to grab a 6-3 lead. Andrew Gryniewicz landed a two-out single to knock in Caruso.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up three runs in the sixth to knot the game at 6-6. Bean sliced a triple to right field to drive in Hunter Leroux-Porter (Greenland, N.H.) and Guerrero before scurrying home on a wild pitch.
Kelvin Cortez (Corona, N.Y.) pitched 1.1 innings in his fourth start of the season. Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) worked two-thirds of an inning in his fifth relief outing. Morgan Weast (Cincinnati, Ohio) tossed two innings in his first appearance out of the bullpen. Dale Beneway (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) hurled two scoreless frames in his ninth relief stint.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene steps out of conference to face UMass-Boston April 20.
