Baseball Collects 5-4 Win Over Clark Monday
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team clipped Clark 5-4 Monday afternoon at the Ripken Experience.
The Lions climb to 5-2 on the season with the victory while the Cougars slide to 0-1 overall with the result.
Steven Pesce (Harrison, N.Y.) notched two hits, two runs scored, one RBI and a stolen base. Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.) and Hernhy Lara (Boston, Mass.) both landed two base knocks and drove in one RBI.
Clark captured a 1-0 edge in the top of the third. Ryan Caulfield singled up the middle to drive in Ethan Belt from third base.
Eastern Nazarene responded with a pair of scores in the home half of the inning to grab a 2-1 lead. Jimenez roped a single to centerfield to plate Kelvin Cortez (Corona, N.Y.) before Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) motored home from third on a wild pitch.
The Lions widened the margin to 3-1 with a run in the sixth as Pesce scored after stealing second followed by a series of errors.
The Cougars chalked up a two runs in the seventh knot the game at 3-3. Ryan Bonja laced a double to left field to drive in Benjamin Spencer before Connor Rulnick tagged up and crossed the dish on a sacrifice fly by Anthony LoCastro.
Clark seized a 4-3 edge with a run in the eighth as Caulfield scored on a wild pitch.
Eastern Nazarene answered with two scores in the home half of the frame to take a 5-4 lead. Pesce raked a double to centerfield to plate George Calderon Jr. (New York, N.Y.) for the tying run. Lara followed with a double to the gap in right-center to drive in Pesce for the go-ahead tally.
Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) threw 6.1 innings in his third start of the spring and registered five strikeouts. Cortez worked 1.2 innings of relief and picked up his first win on the mound. Jon Tessier (Coronado, Calif.) hurled one scoreless inning of finished with three strikeouts to earn his second save of the season.
