NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team posted a pair of non-conference wins Saturday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.
The Lions climb to 10-3 on the season with the two victories while the AMCats fall to 4-9 overall.
Zach Zaino (Falmouth, Mass.) paced the squad with two hits, two runs scored, one RBI, and a stolen base on the day. Zachary Carmody (Babylon, N.Y.) finished with a pair of base knocks, two runs scored, and one stolen base. Dylan Louviaux (Mohnton, Pa.) chipped in with two hits, a pair of stolen bases, and one RBI while Joshua Bombard (Rutland, Mass.) added two hits, one RBI, one run, and a stolen base.
In game one, Eastern Nazarene edged Anna Maria 3-1 in extra-innings.
The AMCats plated a run in the bottom of the second inning to grab a 1-0 edge. Greg Gehring doubled to right-center to drive in Justin Robbins from first base.
The Lions answered in the top of the third to level the game at 1-1. Louviaux roped a double to right-center to score Connor Simpson (Haverhill, Mass.) from second.
Eastern Nazarene tallied a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to claim its first lead of the game, 3-1. Zaino and Bombard landed back-to-back RBI base knocks as Carmody and Zaino both crossed the dish.
Brent Houle (Westfield, Mass.) tossed six innings in his third start of the season and finished with 10 strikeouts. Brenndan Rogers (Hanson, Mass.) hurled two innings of relief to pick up the win.
In the second contest, Eastern Nazarene clipped Anna Maria 3-2 to secure the sweep.
The Lions got on the board in the top of the second to snag a 1-0 advantage. Bombard motored home as Matthew Urena (Flushing, N.Y.) reached first base on an error.
The AMCats tied up the game in the home half of the second as an error allowed Danny Grammel crossed the dish.
Anna Maria chalked up a run in the third to capture a 2-1 lead on a two-out homer to right by Jason Shell.
Eastern Nazarene scored twice in the sixth to reclaim the lead, 3-2. Carmody scurried home on an infield hit off the bat of Urena before Zaino crossed the plate as Anthony Esposito (Mount Royal, N.J.) reached on an error.
Alex Way (Syracuse, N.Y.) pitched three innings and fanned five in his team-best fourth start of the spring. Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) worked four innings of relief and collected a pair of strikeouts.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene is scheduled to host Curry March 24 in the first two Commonwealth Coast Conference games of the season.
