Baseball Caps Off Florida Trip with 6-2 Loss to Albright
FORT PIERCE, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team endured a 6-2 setback to Albright Monday in the team's final game in the Sunshine State.
The Eastern Nazarene Lions move to 8-3 on the year with the loss. The Albright Lions improve to 4-0 overall with the win.
Joshua Bombard (Rutland, Mass.) collected a pair of hits and drove in an RBI to lead the squad. Zach Zaino (Falmouth, Mass.) posted one hit and scored one run in the contest. Connor Simpson (Haverhill, Mass.) and James Coury (Milford, Conn.) each recorded a base knock and a stolen base.
Eastern Nazarene tallied one run in the top of the second to grab a 1-0 edge as Zaino from second base.
Albright generated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to jump ahead 3-1. Brandon Daubert and Zach Krause landed back-to-back RBI doubles before Jeff Yordy picked up an RBI with two outs in the frame.
Albright added a pair in the sixth to widen the margin to 5-1. Logan Adams and Joe Suppa both crossed the dish in the inning for the Lions.
Albright tacked on a run in the seventh to stretch its lead to 6-1. Tanner Brescancine singled to left field to drive in Jimmie Gentry from second base.
Eastern Nazarene pulled to within four with one run in the top of the ninth, 6-2. With runners on the corners, Bombard singled to plate Coury from third base.
Alex Way (Syracuse, N.Y.) pitched four innings and notched four strikeouts in his third start of the spring. Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) tossed three innings of relief and fanned three batters. Brandon Imonti (Tewksbury, Mass.) worked one inning in his second relief outing of the year and finished with one strikeout.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene is scheduled to take on Anna Maria March 17 in an inter-conference doubleheader.
