
Baseball Endures 15-6 Loss to Lasell
WALTHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team suffered a 15-6 setback to Lasell Thursday evening at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University.
The Lions slide to 15-21 on the year while the Lasers improve to 17-14 overall with the outcome.
Andrew Santora (Middle Village, N.Y.) paced Eastern Nazarene at the plate with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Justin Calloway (Moore, Okla.) and Zachary Carmody (Babylon, N.Y.) each chipped in with a base knock and one RBI on the night.
Lasell produced three runs in the bottom of the first to claim a 3-0 lead. With two runners aboard, Wes Hurty belted a three-run home run to open the scoring.
The Lasers exploded for six runs in the second to widen the gap to 9-0. Dan Gagnon, Hector Coscione, Tyler Flaherty, Dom Mascolo all registered RBI base hits in the inning for the home team.
Lasell tacked on three runs in the third to establish a 12-0 advantage. Hurty landed an RBI single to drive in Coscione from third. Hurty tagged up and motored home on a sacrifice fly to right by Flaherty before Mascolo doubled to plate S Beckerman from second base.
The Lions got on the board with three runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 12-3. Sam Danis (Uxbridge, Mass.) crossed the dish as Santora collected an infield hit. Calloway followed with a single to right field to knock in Anthony Esposito (Mount Royal, N.J.). Carmody picked up his team-leading 13th RBI of the season as he singled to score Santora.
Eastern Nazarene pushed across three runs in the sixth to narrow the margin to 12-6. Josue Basilis (Bronx, N.Y.) and Joe Commesso (Marshfield, Mass.) both scored as Esposito reached on an error. Danis scampered home from the second time in the contest as Santora roped a double.
The Lasers scored three times in the eighth to stretch their lead to 15-6. Connor Duquette drew a bases-loaded walk and Gagnon and Matt Haskell crossed the dish on errors.
Brandon Wynne (New Haven, Conn.) tossed 1.2 innings and struck out two in his first start of the year. Rob Dukes (Spencer, Mass.) pitched 3.1 innings of relief and posted one strikeout. Brandon Imonti (Tewksbury, Mass.) hurled two scoreless innings and racked up three strikeouts. Tyler Brown (Wilmington, Del.) threw one-third of an inning and Will Francis (Midlothian, Va.) worked two-thirds of a frame.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene resumes league play as it hosts Endicott April 29 in the final home doubleheader of the spring.
