Anthony Berroa Picks Up CCC Pitcher of the Week Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Senior Anthony Berroa (Teaneck, N.J.) of the Eastern Nazarene baseball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Berroa tossed a one-hit shutout in his first appearance on the mound this spring to propel the Lions to a 1-0 victory over Hiram at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
The senior right-hander carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning before surrendering a two-out single.
He finished with six strikeouts in the game while allowing four walks.
Berroa helped his own cause, driving in Eastern Nazarene's lone run in the win.
This season, Berroa has pitched 11 scoreless innings and struck out 12 batters while allowing just two hits. He leads the Lions' pitching staff with a 2-0 record on the hill.
Berroa has also racked up seven hits on the year, including three extra-base hits, and is riding a seven-game hitting streak. He has crossed the plate seven times, swiped five bases and driven in a team-best eight RBIs.
Eastern Nazarene boasts a 5-3 record on the year and will travel to Worcester, Mass. to square off against Clark in a nine-inning non-conference clash March 18.
