Bio

Lloyd Shannon came to ENC and played basketball and baseball for four years and soccer for one. In basketball, he led his team in scoring for three years from 1964-67. During his junior year at King’s Tournament Lloyd scored his 1,000th career point and finished his career with 1,421 points. When he graduated he was the second all-time leading scorer behind Ray Baltz. During his senior year, he was the only returning letterman but he helped his team defeat the #1 ranked Roberts Wesleyan College. Baseball was always considered his best sport. He was a catcher who had a career .300 batting average. His most memorable game was against Franklin Pierce College, when he went four for six, with three home runs, a double, and an intentional walk with runners on first and second with two outs on his seventh at bat. Coach Bradley said he had never seen that happen in all his years of baseball. He received Honorable Mention in the Colonial Conference for his one year of soccer.

During his last year at ENC, he met his wife of 42 years, Katheryn Frawley Shannon ('71). After graduation he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served two years with the last year in Vietnam. After earning his master’s degree in special education, he taught in the field for 15 years before earning a certification in guidance counseling. For the next 20 years he worked in the Tyler Independent School District in Texas counseling children ages five through high school, with the last five years being at an Alternative placement school. He retired in June 2011.

Summing up his years at ENC Lloyd says: “I had many wonderful memories and loved playing the games with great people. I came as a 17 year old country boy serving myself and loving sports.  I left ENC five years later serving the Lord and haven't stopped.”
