ENC Women’s Volleyball Alumna Ruth Aguilar Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras), a 2022 graduate and alumna of the Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball program, has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award by the institution as well as the New England Collegiate Conference.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
The Woman of the Year selection committee will choose the top 10 honorees in each NCAA division. The committee will then determine the top three candidates from each division from that pool. The nine finalists will be sent to the Committee on Women's Athletics, which will vote to determine the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year.
Aguilar concluded her playing career with the Lions' women's volleyball program in the fall of 2021. She was a key contributor to Eastern Nazarene's 2019 and 2021 NECC championship teams. She was named the NECC Tournament MVP in 2019 and 2021.
A three-time All-NECC first team honoree, Aguilar was named the NECC Player of the Year in 2019 and NECC Rookie of the Year in 2018. As a senior, she earned New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) All-New England honorable mention.
She racked up 1,271 career assists to go with 641 kills, 606 digs, and 124 service aces. Aguilar saw action in 78 career matches for the Lions, including a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
Away from the court, Aguilar served two years as Executive Student Government Association President. She graduated with a degree in Business Management and Finance.
