Emily Gomez Selected As 1 of 2 CCC NCAA Woman of the Year Nominees
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Emily Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) of the Eastern Nazarene College softball team has been selected as one the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) nominees for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year Award along with Endicott's Emylee Wood, announced the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
As conference nominees, Gomez and Wood will be forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which will choose the top 10 honorees in each NCAA division. The committee will then determine the top three candidates from each division from that pool. The nine finalists will be sent to the Committee on Women's Athletics, which will vote to determine the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year.
The 30 Woman of the Year candidates will all be honored at a dinner on Oct. 28 in Indianapolis. The 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will also be announced at that time.
Gomez. a liberal arts major with a concentration in education, was a three-year member of the Eastern Nazarene softball team. Throughout her time as a student-athlete, she maintained an excellent grade point average, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and was also a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference Academic All-Conference honoree.
During her senior year, Emily served as an Executive Board Member on the CCC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as well as volunteering with Special Olympics. Since arriving at ENC, she was heavily involved in the community, participating in the Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer's, volunteering at the Quincy Crisis Center, and serving as an orientation leader in 2016.
Gomez received numerous honors and recognitions during her time as a student-athlete including the college's honor roll, Dean's List, Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society, and two selections as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.
