Women’s Volleyball Tops Maine-Fort Kent, 3-0, in Midweek Matinee
HANOVER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team rolled past Maine-Fort Kent early Wednesday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Lions improve to 10-8 on the season with the win while the Bengals drop to 5-8 overall.
Emma Graves (Berkshire, N.Y.) fueled the offense with 18 kills while adding three blocks. Eliana Baran (Beaumont, Calif.) and Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) each notched eight kills on the day. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) posted 31 assists, five digs, and three service aces. Samantha Thornton (Bartlett, Tenn.) collected 19 digs and three aces while Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) chipped in with 18 digs.
After falling behind 19-13 in the first set, the Lions clawed back to tally six-straight points to level the set at 19-19 before edging the Bengals 26-24 in the opening frame.
Eastern Nazarene cruised to a 25-10 victory in the second set to extend its advantage to 2-0.
The Lions locked up their 10th win of the campaign with a 25-18 decision in the third.
Carla Rodriguez led Maine-Fort Kent with a double-double, registering 15 assists and 11 digs. Heather Harness chalked up a team-high seven kills and 10 digs.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to New England College October 9 for the first NECC match of the year.
