Women’s Tennis Set to Make NCAA Tournament Debut
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- After claiming the program's first North Atlantic Conference championship in the fall, the Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. The Lions will face Stevens in the opening round at Wesleyan University on May 10.
Eastern Nazarene sports a 13-2 overall record on the year and compiled a 5-0 mark in league matches. The Lions have strung together 12-consecutive victories heading into the NCAA Tournament.
Sofia Rojas (Medellin, Colombia) leads the Lions after garnering NAC Co-Player of the Year honors earlier this year. Rojas boasts a 14-0 record at the No. 1 singles position this season. Sara Poletto (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) was named the NAC Rookie of the Year this fall and owns a 12-2 record in singles action.
Eastern Nazarene's No. 1 doubles duo of Pamela Gonzalez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Rojas boasts an 8-2 record this year.
The Ducks own a 13-5 overall record and captured the MAC Freedom championship with a 5-4 victory over Misericordia. Stevens, ranked No. 6 in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings, will be making its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Lions and the Ducks have never met on the courts as Friday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
