Women’s Tennis Begins 2015 Campaign with 7-2 Victory at Mount Ida
NEWTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team notched a 7-2 non-league win at Mount Ida Tuesday afternoon to open the season.
The Lions improve to 1-0 with the victory while the Mustangs fall to 0-1 overall.
Eastern Nazarene claimed a pair of wins in doubles action to grab a 2-1 edge in the match.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) prevailed 8-1 at the No. 2 doubles spot. Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) also captured an 8-1 win at the third position.
Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Adele Duval (Dallas, Texas) dropped an 8-4 decision at the top slot.
The visitors secured the victory with five wins in singles play.
Duval earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 1 singles position in her first collegiate match. Cressman collected a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the third spot and Sutton defeated Danielle Barnabe in the fourth singles match.
Tubbs cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 slot and Jordan Price (Snow Hill, Md.) picked up a 6-1, 7-5 victory at the sixth position.
Burrello absorbed a 6-3, 7-5 loss at the No. 2 singles match to Jenna Jarman.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will host Regis in the first home match of the fall September 3.
