Women’s Tennis Suffers 9-0 Setback to Salve Regina
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Salve Regina at home Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions slip to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Seahawks improved to 2-2 on the year and 2-1 in league matches with the result.
Salve Regina picked up three doubles victories to grab a 3-0 lead.
Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and Sarah Layton (Bonney Lake, Wash.) fell 8-3 at the top doubles spot to Gina Ciliberti and Hayley Maxwell. Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) absorbed an 8-0 loss at the No. 2 position to Kasey Walther and Emma Gruber. Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) suffered an 8-1 setback at the third slot to the Seahawks' Meg Olson and Elizabeth diFilippo.
The visitors secured six singles wins to cap off the victory.
McLaughlin dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at the No. 1 singles position to Walther. Layton and Burrello also endured 6-0, 6-0 losses at the second and third singles spots, respectively.
Atwater lost in straight sets at the fourth slot to DiFilippo, 6-0, 6-1. Waddle fell 6-1, 6-2 to Salve Regina's Elizabeth Liguori at the No. 5 position. Lariviere suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss at the sixth singles spot to Lindsey Macedo.
