Women’s Basketball Breezes by Lesley, 89-49
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team notched its fourth-straight win as it cruised past Lesley 89-49 Thursday afternoon at the Lahue Athletic Center.
The Lions improve to 12-8 on the year and 4-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the victory. The Lynx drop to 2-14 overall and 0-3 in league play with the result.
Janelle Jiron (Granada Hills, Calif.) posted her third double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Shade Richardson (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) poured in 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench. Tyra Davis (Houston, Texas) registered 13 points and six boards. Alondra Jimenez (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished with 12 points and seven assists.
The hosts netted 13 of the first 16 points of the game to establish a 13-3 lead midway through the opening quarter.
Eastern Nazarene sported a 24-16 advantage at the start of the second frame.
The Lions widened the gap to 34-21 on a layup by Ahidali DeHuelbes (Tucson, Ariz.) with 5:38 remaining in the second quarter.
The home team strung together a 10-0 run to push its lead to 46-26 and held a 46-29 halftime advantage.
Eastern Nazarene shot 44.2% from the floor and connected on 2-of-13 from beyond the arc in the first half. Lesley boasted a field-goal percentage of 46.2% to go with 5-for-8 shooting from three-point range at the break.
A trey by Richardson with 3:20 left in the third capped off an 11-0 run as the Lions stretched the margin to 59-38.
The hosts outscored the visitors 21-11 in the third period to own a 67-40 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up 22 points in the fourth quarter and limited the Lynx to just nine en route to collecting its fourth-consecutive win.
The Lions finished the game with a field-goal percentage of 50% and drained 6-of-24 three-point attempts. The Lynx shot 40.8% from the deck and 46.7% from long distance on the night.
Kizziah Ruff paced Lesley with 17 points while Alexandra Kerley chipped in with 10 points and Raven Premont added nine points off the bench.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene closes out the regular-season February 16 on the road at Mitchell.
