Women’s Basketball Knocks Off New England College, 66-47
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team triumphed 66-47 over New England College Tuesday evening at the Lahue Athletic Center.
The Lions climb to 11-8 on the season and 3-1 in New England Collegiate Conference action with the win. The Pilgrims sink to 14-6 overall and 3-1 in league play with the setback.
Delaney Walker (Nampa, Idaho) poured in a team-high 15 points and notched five steals. Sydni Oviatt (Fruit Heights, Utah) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Alondra Jimenez (Santa Barbara, Calif.) registered 12 points, four assists, three steals, and three boards. Te'yalla Simpson (Fairfield, Texas) netted 11 points off the bench.
The home team closed out the opening quarter with eight-consecutive points to hold a 15-10 lead.
Eastern Nazarene started the second frame with a trey by Simpson and a bucket by Oviatt to widen the margin to 20-10 just 37 seconds into the period.
The Lions extended their advantage to 30-16 with 6:11 remaining in the second as Shade Richardson (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) converted a pair of free throws.
New England College trimmed the deficit to 31-26 just before the halftime intermission.
Eastern Nazarene sported a field-goal percentage of 44.4% at the midway point of the contest while connecting on 4-of-9 from behind the arc. The Pilgrims shot 48% from the deck despite coming up empty on all four of their three-point attempts in the half.
The hosts regained a double-digit lead with 8:05 left in the third, 36-36, as Walker drilled a trey.
Eastern Nazarene outscored the visitors 19-13 in the third quarter to push its lead to 50-39 heading into the final frame.
The Lions chalked up 16 fourth-quarter points while limiting New England College to eight as they wrapped up their third-straight win and handed the Pilgrims their first conference loss of the season.
Eastern Nazarene shot 48.2% from the floor and 35.7% from beyond the arc on the night. The Pilgrims posted a field-goal percentage of 40% to go with a 2-for-9 showing from three-point range.
Kayla Goldring recorded a double-double for New England College, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 boards. Brianna Pierreval chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds while Ericka Pratt added eight points.
