NEW LONDON, Conn.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team suffered a 95-56 setback at Mitchell in non-league action Saturday afternoon.
The Lions slip to 8-5 on the season with the result while the Mariners improve to 7-6 overall.
Sophia Torres (Fort Mohave, Ariz.) poured in 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Tyra Davis (Houston, Texas) scored 10 points off the bench while Mya Landry (Derry, N.H.) netted a career-high nine points and added five boards.
The home team boasted a 19-14 lead through one quarter and extended its advantage to 50-33 at the halftime break.
Mitchell widened the margin to 76-40 after three periods and edged Eastern Nazarene 19-16 in fourth-quarter scoring.
The Lions finished with a field-goal percentage of 29.6% while connecting on 6-of-21 from three-point range. The Mariners shot 58% from the floor and 46.2% from beyond the arc on the afternoon.
Amina Wiley paced the hosts with 21 points and 12 rebounds while Dede Stevenson tallied 15 points. Jermia Dumas and Sam McKenna both chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene heads to New England College January 19 to begin New England Collegiate Conference play.
